The Summer Hoc Age magazine, full of pupil achievements, events, trips and good news stories across the whole school, is now available online.
“I write this at the end of a normal School year. It is magic to be able to say that after the disruption of recent times.
Lessons, trips, recitals, concerts and plays, clubs, societies, competitions, sports fixtures and tournaments, fundraising, the calendar of OB events, open days and mornings, even exams … the fabric of BGS routine. And it is quite a routine as the pages that follow attest – ‘normal’, BGS style.
We reflect on the year at our annual Junior and Senior School Prizegiving and Speech Days. Needless to say, there is much to celebrate, and our young people have enjoyed a great year – no doubt. The rewards of a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and secure work habit pay off. Meaningful rewards are rarely immediate, but they do come to those who model our Hoc Age motto. I am proud of our pupils and excited about the people they are becoming. The summer break will provide an opportunity for a rest, breathing space, and then we go again, embracing new opportunities, bettering ourselves and taking our School forwards.
Well done all, and thank you BGS families and friends for your support. Enjoy the summer and do take good care.”

“It has been all systems go in the Junior School during the Summer term with so much taking place that it’s a little difficult to know where to start! There’s been purposeful learning in the classrooms and a plethora of activities and opportunities in the wider curriculum. Our trips and events are all back up and running and we have welcomed the opportunity to have parents at our events.
We welcomed the return of the Young Voices event and children in Years 4, 5, and 6 made the journey to Sheffield to sing with thousands of children from schools across the region. The Clock House children also enjoyed participating in the Brownlee Triathlon at BGS. Sports Day was blessed with fine weather and provided sport for all opportunities culminating in a house tug ‘o’ war competition.
Every year group has benefited from their own residential visit where the children have had opportunities to develop as a team, challenge themselves and develop confidence, all while having fun. We learned about the decades of the Queen’s reign as part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations, with each class researching a decade and presenting their findings to the School. We also enjoyed hosting Clock House families for a red, white and blue jubilee picnic at the Senior School pavilion.
It’s not only the children who have been thriving, the flowers, plants and vegetables tended to by the children in our school garden club have also been flourishing this term. A personal highlight is noticing, from my office, the Year 4 pupils (the plant monitors) carefully watering the hanging baskets outside the front of Clock House. These moments of care and attention may be small but are important parts of the Clock House experience.
