A talented young violinist is celebrating an impressive set of GCSE results after balancing his passion for music alongside a full academic programme.
Raj A was thrilled to receive eight 9s and two grade 8s when he arrived at Bradford Grammar School (BGS) to collect his results, as well as securing a Distinction in EMC (Further Maths).
Raj, 16, of Halifax, said: “I’m so happy with my grades and can’t believe it. I’m thankful to BGS for their commitment in making sure we enjoy our lessons and learn well. The staff have helped me fall in love with all subjects and have challenged me to grow in the best way.”
Having joined BGS in Year 9, Raj said he was drawn to the school’s strong reputation and the opportunities available, particularly those with a passion for music. The Grade 8 violinist is a member of BGS’s Senior String and Senior Orchestra, attending rehearsals once a week and enjoying the opportunity to perform regularly alongside other talented musicians.
He said: “I love playing the violin because it’s such an expressive instrument. You can make it sound gentle and delicate or much more powerful, and I enjoy being able to bring those different emotions to a performance.”
The teenager is now looking forward to continuing his studies at BGS’s Sixth Form, where he will study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. He is hoping to pursue a career in Maths but is keen to continue playing the violin alongside his studies.
His dad, Ranadeb, an NHS Consultant, added: “We’re unbelievably happy for Raj today. He has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, putting so much effort in everything he’s done. It’s wonderful to see his hard work being well rewarded now and we can’t wait to see what he does next.”
