Joanna, who joined BGS in Year 12 was delighted with her results and is excited to be heading off to the University of Edinburgh. Joanna recalls she felt a massive sense of relief when she opened her results to see her two A*s and one A grade. Having always been interested in healthcare, Joanna will be going on to study nursing, and hopes one day to be able travel with her qualification.

Head Boy Shaan was ecstatic and a little shocked when he opened his results. A little lost for words, Shaan explained how proud he was feeling and explained how his genuine love for his subjects has paid off. With no long-term goal in mind, Shaan looks forward to going on to study Politics at King’s College London but says he doesn’t feel quite ready to leave BGS just yet – having joined BGS in Year 2, the school is like a second home!

Lara was delighted with her four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths. She will be taking up her Biology course at University College London (UCL) after a gap year. “It’s been a long journey to get here and it’s a relief to have it as a closed page. I’m looking forward to doing some conservation work abroad and seeing more of the world on my travels,” she said.

Hamzah was ‘over the moon’ with his three A*s and one B and says BGS has been “an incredibly rewarding experience.” Having joined BGS in Year 12 on an Assisted Place, Hamzah explained how BGS has changed his trajectory of life and is so grateful for the opportunity to study here. “I am also so thankful to my sponsor, who has inspired me to want to give back to society like he has done for me.” Hamzah heads off to the University of Cambridge to study History.

“A year like no other!” is how Hannah summed up this past year. She said: “I am truly honoured to have been Head Girl this year, keeping everyone together during what has been a difficult year. It has been a crazy time, but it has been special and one I will never forget.” Hannah’s responsibilities are not yet over as she is busy organising the rescheduled Sixth Form Ball for later this year and looks forward to meeting back up with everyone. Hannah is excited to be heading off to Durham University to study Biological Science.

Imaan was thrilled with her two A*s in Biology and History and an A in Chemistry. She is looking forward to heading off to the University of Oxford to study History, but says she is sad to be leaving BGS. “I was so nervous at getting my results – I couldn’t even open them. In the end, my dad had to open them for me!” she recalls.
Lorcan Hanafin
Lorcan HanafinOne A* and two As
Lorcan successfully juggled his studies with forging a successful motorsport career. He’s currently competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, where he’s one of the youngest drivers in the series. “I’m really happy with my results, although it’s not quite the same as winning a race,” he laughed. “But it’s still a good feeling. I put in a lot of hard work and it’s paid off which is great.”

Ecstatic Charlie will be heading to Cambridge University after securing A* grades across the board. Charlie, who joined BGS in the Sixth Form on an Assisted Place, said BGS had helped her realise her dreams of being an inventor after she achieved A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, enabling her to study Engineering at the prestigious university. “It’s been quite emotional getting the results. It’s going to take a while for it to sink in.”
Will Luxton
Will LuxtonOne A and two Bs
Will was delighted after securing an A grade in Business, B in History and B in Physical Education. One of Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s youngest team members, he will now take some time to focus on his cricketing career and hopes one day to play for England. “I’ve been playing cricket since I could pick up a bat and I’ve enjoyed playing sport at BGS.
The facilities have been great and Simon Kellett (BGS specialist sports coach cricket) is a really good coach.”

Anna received two A*s and an A in History, Geography and Psychology respectively after joining BGS in the Sixth Form. She will be studying History at Durham University. “It was good that all our hard work paid off and that what happened with the pandemic didn’t compromise our results. The support from our teachers has been great,” she said.

Olivia was overjoyed after securing three A*s in History, Spanish and Russian. She is heading off to Cambridge to study History and Russian. Olivia, who joined BGS in Year 9, said: “I’m very happy with my results and really excited to go to Cambridge. I’ve had great support from my teachers, especially from the Head of History, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

“An end of an era” is how sporting fanatic Eve summed up her BGS experience. Having joined BGS in Year 2, Eve will miss BGS but is ready to take on her next challenge. She will be heading off to The University of Edinburgh to study Business Management after receiving two A*s and an A in Business, Politics and History respectively.

Peter secured four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Further Maths and will be studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University. He said: “It’s been nice to come back into school today and see my friends and how well they’ve done. Even though I expected the grades it was good to get confirmation.”
Funmi Ogunde

Funmi, who lost her mum suddenly and has lived independently for the last two years, was celebrating after her hard work was rewarded with the top grades she needed to go to Oxford University. Funmi recalls she had focused on her dream of securing a place at the prestigious university to get through the last five years since her mum, Cheyvonne, died from a heart attack aged 47. She will now head off to Oxford to study French.

Lily is excited to be heading to Falmouth University to study Sustainable Product Design after receiving two A*s and a B in Art, DT Product Design and Business respectively. “I’m super excited to be doing this unique course which I first learnt about in Year 10 at the biennial careers evening. I have wanted to do it ever since!” she said.

Lui heads off to the University of York to study Chemistry after receiving straight A*s in Chemistry, German and Psychology. BGS has been a big part of his life – his two older siblings are Old Bradfordians and two younger ones are still at BGS – he is going to miss his time and has fond memories. “BGS is the best school! I am going to miss my friends and the teachers. There is a great atmosphere at BGS, and everyone is so supportive” he said.

Singer Kate achieved three A*s in Drama & Theatre, English Literature and Music. Her fantastic grades secured her a place at Cambridge University to study Music and pursue her dream of an opera career. Kate, who joined BGS in the Sixth Form, said: “I’m so pleased all my hard work paid off. It’s been difficult to find ways to sing during the pandemic, but the school has been great supporting us and we’ve been able to sing with the choir online. It was really nice to get back to school and sing in a couple of concerts, including at the Cathedral for Founders’ Day.”

“Current competition for places at university has been strong, with many students from 2020 deferring their places and an expected record year for results. We’re delighted so many from BGS have secured places at their first-choice universities, the great majority of them Russell Group. We wish them every success in the future.”
