the bradfordian
Our NEW edition of ‘The Bradfordian’ (Issue 351, Autumn 2017) is now available to view online. This is BGS’s annual publication that includes a record of the school year featuring news from across the Junior, Senior and Sixth Form including ‘Community, Societies and Activities, ‘Events’, ‘Trips and Visits’, ‘Arts and Performance’ and ‘Sport’.

“Welcome to the latest edition of ‘The Bradfordian’. This splendid publication marks time, which rushes past in a busy school like ours, and provides a lovely reflection on the year gone by. When past editions of the annual Bradfordian are lined up, you get a sense of a school that moves with the times and embraces informed change as part of its natural rhythm.

Paradoxically, this seems to be one of our consistent, defining features over the years. However, some things don’t change, nor should they. Our values are deeply rooted. We aspire to excellence but achieve it in a no-nonsense, just get on and do it, ‘Hoc Age’ fashion. There is honesty and integrity in the way Bradford Grammar School (BGS) goes about its business.

The pages that follow attest to such an approach. Lives at BGS are full and rich, learning is varied and success is defined and achieved in many different ways. School life at BGS has meaning and provides many happy memories. Our pupils heard wise and entertaining words on this theme from Old Bradfordian (OB), actor, writer and producer John Hollingworth at Speech Day.

The work ethic of our charismatic, but also modest speaker, was an example to all. As Headmaster, I enjoy the privilege of meeting many OBs from all walks of life. The varied roads they have travelled after BGS speaks volumes about the way in which this wonderful school fosters independence and helps young people from a diverse range of backgrounds to find their own way forward.

It always has. Fundamentally, we know who we are and what we are about. We work hard, play fair, look after each other and try to do some good in our communities. The pages that follow contain examples of these themes, offer a snapshot of the comings and goings of our school and pay tribute to the staff and pupils that make BGS such a special place.

Enjoy.”
