
Bradford Grammar School have achieved some of its best GCSE grades in its 475-year history today with more than 27 per cent awarded being a top grade 9.
Students at Bradford Grammar School (BGS) were celebrating their hard work after 52 per cent of grades were a 9-8, up two per cent on last year, and 74 per cent were 9-7s, equivalent to A*/A and up three per cent on last year. Several talented students at the school achieved grade 9s across the board.
Among them gaining straight 9s was Ciaron M of Mixenden, near Halifax, who will now join BGS’s Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish.
He said: “I can’t believe my grades. I’m absolutely over the moon with them. I really didn’t expect them at all. BGS is special because the teachers put their all into every lesson to help us grow.”
Huzaifa A also got all 9s and said he was delighted with his results after joining BGS on an Assisted Place. The 16-year-old, from Bradford, wants to go into Medicine or Dentistry and will study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish at BGS.
He said: “I’m really grateful for my Assisted Places as it’s opened up opportunities for me that I might not have had. BGS is such a great environment and I’ve made incredible friends here.”
Maya A was celebrating her string of 9s with her friends at BGS, many of whom she has known since she joined the school in Year 3.
“My best memory now will be chatting to my friends after our GCSE exams and seeing how we all found it and how we thought we did. We love to support each other and it was so nice to hear we’d all done well after studying so hard. We got to see how all our had work had paid off.”
Musician Raj A, of Halifax, who gained a string of 9s and two 8s. The 16-year-old, who has a Grade 8 in Violin and plays in the school’s Senior String and Senior Orchestra, is looking forward to studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at BGS’s Sixth Form.
“I’m so happy with my grades and can’t believe it, especially the 9 in Music,” he said. “I’m very thankful to BGS for their commitment and making sure we enjoy our lessons and learn well. The staff have helped me fall in love with all subjects and have challenged me to grow in the best way.
“As a violinist, I love that there are opportunities here for string players. I’m part of ensembles here and musical groups and love performing.”
Ayaan A, of Bradford, was also celebrating after securing a string of 8s and 9s.
The 16-year-old is part of the Derbyshire Cricket U16 Player Pathway and trains 3-4 times a week, recently scoring a century.
“I’m so happy with my results, all the hard work was worth it. BGS pushed me to achieve my best, especially with the mixture of cricket, competitions and academics.
“I joined BGS in Year 2 and I’ve made such strong friendships where. We all really motivate each other do well and encourage each other to succeed which is important to me. I’m proud to have found such a strong community here.”
Ayaan will now study for A Levels in Maths, Business, Chemistry and Religious Studies at BGS.
Mum, Salma, added: “We’re so proud of Ayaan for his results. The friendships that he’s made have been incredible and it’s great to see such a good balance of academics and sports.”
Dr Simon Hinchliffe, Headmaster at Bradford Grammar School, said the grades were the highest in the school’s history barring the ‘Covid’ years.
“While our students have done incredibly well this year, the results reflect a consistent level of high performance across the years. Many have balanced commitments such as elite sporting demands or musical performances alongside their academic pursuits so it’s particularly pleasing to see them rewarded with excellent grades today.
“We’re very proud and look forward to welcoming them to our Sixth Form in September.”
