Three BGS senior rugby players have enjoyed being part of the U18 Yorkshire Rugby Academy squad during the pandemic.

Obi Ene, Ed Harrison and George Gilgrass were allowed to continue playing with the academy, after the RFU confirmed all Premiership academy players could continue training during lockdown under elite sport exemption.

Head of BGS Rugby, Dan Scarbrough, said: “It’s been a very tough year for the promising group of senior rugby players at Bradford Grammar by not being able to fulfil their ambition to represent the school in their final year. But well done to Obi, Ed and George for continuing their development with The Yorkshire Academy.”

The boys will play matches in the Academy League against other Premiership academies including Wasps, Leicester Tigers, Sale Sharks and Newcastle Falcons across weekends throughout May.

The Yorkshire Rugby Academy is a partnership between the RFU, Premiership Rugby Limited and the Yorkshire RFU to develop talented players aged 14-18 within Yorkshire and support them with pathway to the Premiership post academy.

The academy lead is Old Bradfordian, Stuart Dixon (1994), and Dan Scarbrough (1996) is also one of the academy coaches.
