Bradford Grammar School sixth former Millie C has secured places on two prestigious national dance programmes, earning the opportunity to train with some of the UK’s top professionals – just weeks after celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results.
Millie, who has been dancing since the age of four, won coveted spots with Tap Attack – the UK’s leading tap company associate scheme – and JAD Collective, a commercial and hip-hop programme led by renowned choreographer Joe Dubas.
A versatile performer across ballet, tap, acro, jazz, lyrical and commercial styles, Millie has trained with Joze School of Dance – now the Charlotte Wallis Dance Academy – and has performed in pantomimes and musicals with Bingley Amateur Dramatics for the past seven years. She was awarded a distinction in her Intermediate Ballet exam, earning UCAS points, and describes her acceptance into both programmes ‘a huge honour.’
“It was nerve-wracking auditioning alongside such talented dancers, but I felt really welcomed and I’m proud to have been chosen,” she said. “These programmes will give me incredible opportunities to develop as a performer and work with inspiring professionals.”
Alongside her training commitments, Millie achieved ten grade 9s and one grade 8 at GCSE and is now studying A Level Maths, Physics, Design Technology and English Literature at BGS Sixth Form. She hopes to pursue a career in architecture or structural engineering while continuing to dance and eventually teach younger students.
She added: “Dance will always be a big part of my life, but I’m also really excited about my academic subjects and the chance to shape my future career. Balancing rehearsals, training and schoolwork can be challenging, but I’ve learned how to manage my time and stay focused.”
Headteacher Dr Simon Hinchliffe added: “Millie exemplifies the breadth of talent we nurture at Bradford Grammar School. She has shown that dedication to academic excellence can sit alongside artistic passion at the highest level, and her success is an inspiration to both our Sixth Form and younger pupils.”
