A TEENAGER who came to Bradford as an asylum seeker aged nine was overjoyed today after gaining 11 GCSEs.

Adheeb Razmi is originally from Sri Lanka and came to Bradford Grammar School (BGS) on an assisted place in Year 7.

The 16-year-old, who now lives in Low Moor, Bradford, secured two 9s, two 8s, three 7s, three 6s and one 5 and said: “I liked the atmosphere at Bradford Grammar as soon as I came here. Everyone was really friendly, and the teachers were very helpful.

“I’ve done particularly well in subjects I want to study at A Level so I’m pleased overall.”

Adheeb, who would like to study aerospace engineering in the future, is now planning on taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry in the Sixth Form at BGS.

Dr Simon Hinchliffe, headmaster at BGS, said: “Adheeb settled into BGS life incredibly well when he joined us and we’re delighted we’ve been able to support him. We wish him well as he pursues his ambitions to be an aerospace engineer.”
