A talented Derbyshire cricketer is celebrating a strong set of GCSE results while continuing to pursue his dream of reaching the highest level in the sport.

Ayaan A, who has balanced his academic studies at Bradford Grammar School with an intense cricket training schedule, today discovered his hard work had paid off after securing five grade 9s and a string of 8s in his GCSEs.

Ayaan, of Bradford, said: “I’m so happy with my results, the hard work has truly paid off. I began preparing for my GCSEs in the summer after Year 10, and it was worth it. I’m grateful BGS pushed me to achieve my best, especially while balancing cricket, competitions and academics.”

Ayaan began playing cricket at the age of six and has worked hard to develop his skills over the years. He bats at club level, recently scoring his first century of 108 with Saltaire, and bowls at county level, where he has earned the nickname ‘Leg Spinner’.

The 16-year-old trains with Saltaire Cricket Club during the week and also travelled to Derbyshire weekly for winter training as part of Derbyshire Cricket’s U16 Player Pathway. He has secured continuous wickets for Derbyshire CCC since he started playing with them and will continue the winter net sessions on selection for the U18 programme at the end of the year.

Academically, he’s looking forward to continuing his development in the sport while studying for A Levels in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Religious Studies with Philosophy and Ethics at the BGS Sixth Form.

“I started at BGS in Year 2 and have made such strong friendships here. We all really motivate each other to do well, which is important to me. I’m proud to have found such a great community at BGS.”

Dr Simon Hinchliffe, Headmaster at BGS, said: “Ayaan’s achievements are a wonderful reflection of his determination and commitment, both in the classroom and on the cricket field. Balancing the demands of academic study with a rigorous training schedule requires discipline and resilience, and Ayaan has shown that with hard work and ambition, it is possible to excel in both.”
