Talented young actress Eva S is heading to Manchester to pursue her film and television dreams.
Eva was delighted with her A Level results in Drama, Politics, Psychology and AS Level Music Technology and will take up her place at The Arden School of Theatre in Manchester in September.
The 18-year-old, who is represented by the casting agency, Articulate, said: “Everything has turned out so well with my results. BGS has been incredibly supportive with helping me succeed, through training, helping with auditions and allowing vocal rest when I needed it. I’m so excited for my next steps of working towards being an actress.”
The teenager, from Bingley, developed her love of singing and acting at BGS and, as her confidence grew over the years, she took the starring role of Dewey Finn in the school’s most recent production, School of Rock.
The role earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Musical at this year’s National School Theatre Awards (NSTA) and strengthened her ambitions to pursue acting.
A representative from NSTA came to review the show and wrote that Eva was ‘very talented’ and ‘brought energy to the ensemble numbers and lifted every scene in which she appeared.’ She was also praised for her ‘infectious enthusiasm’ and ‘impressive stage presence’.
“The whole experience was incredible and such a lot of fun,” recalled Eva. “I couldn’t have foreseen being nominated for a national award at all.”
Eva was too nervous to audition for any school productions when she first joined BGS in Year 9. But over the years, her confidence grew.
“The progression of going from ‘I don’t know if I can’ to five years later playing the lead and being an aspiring actor has been the most incredible progression, but it’s felt completely natural,” she said. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the encouragement of the teachers who’ve had faith in me from the very beginning. BGS is where I’ve discovered just how much I love acting and where I’ve realised I want to make a career out of it.”
Eva is also a keen rower, plays guitar and has had singing lessons throughout her time at the school.
“I’ve really grown as a singer,” she said. “I used to be too worried about what others thought of me but now I’ve learnt how to properly use my voice and hold myself as a performer. I have something I want to share with a room full of people and I now have the skills to be able to express that.
“My ideal career would be performing in television and film. Any opportunity I have I will be absolutely going for it.”
Dr Simon Hinchliffe, Headmaster at BGS, said: “Our drama, music and art departments never fail to put on excellent productions, which have inspired hundreds of children, like Eva, to pursue professional careers in the arts. We’ve no doubt a fantastic future awaits, be it on stage or screen, for talented Eva.”
