Academic Life

“You can’t fail to be impressed by the people, the facilities and the academic excellence” – Sixth Form parent

Education is an adventure and is treated as such at BGS. The enthusiasm and excitement shared by our staff and students prepare young people for the world beyond the classroom.

By blending our traditional values and heritage with our modern curriculum and first class facilities, we provide an education that promotes discovery, fulfilment and life-changing experiences. This distinct style of education ensures our students remain grounded and modest even when they achieve great things.

  • Teaching staff
    • Our inspiring, experienced and insightful teachers promote a culture of aspiration, creating the conditions for students to achieve, and encouraging them to succeed. The strong bond between our teachers and students fosters active engagement in the learning process. Our academic success is also based on trust and mutual respect that you see in all of our classrooms.

Learning is limitless with the right encouragement; our teaching staff have a genuine desire to help students realise their potential, and go the extra mile to ensure they do.

  • Facilities
    • Discover a learning environment that fosters excellence by providing opportunities for students to perform at their best. Let your son or daughter take centre stage in the Hockney Theatre, develop a love of science in our laboratories, design technology workshops and Computer Aided Design (CAD) suites, and be inspired in our newly opened £2.1 million state of the art library.

Over the past 50 years, we have continually refined and developed our facilities. Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre with full WiFi offers outstanding surroundings for the happiness and success of our students.

  • Academic success
    • Our public examination results are consistently outstanding, affirming BGS as a centre of academic excellence year after year.

Well over half of our A Level examinations were graded A* or A in 2016, allowing the vast majority of our students entry to their university of choice. We are very proud of how successfully and smoothly run our UCAS application process is at the School, with a comprehensive programme of incredibly important Higher Education events firmly embedded within Sixth Form life. Every year a good proportion of our students go on to study at Oxford or Cambridge.
