Senior School Pastoral Care
Outstanding pastoral support contributes to the happiness of Bradford Grammar School pupils, creating a positive, friendly atmosphere for all.
We work closely with parents to ensure each child receives the best possible pastoral care during their time at BGS.
We offer an extensive in-house counselling programme helping pupils to avoid and overcome problems. Our team of Form Tutors, Heads of Year, School Nurses, Counsellors and Learning Support Department work together to promote our pupils’ happiness and progress.
We recognise that we have duty to develop the whole child and to ensure that every young person in our care receives the attention that they deserve. Students who need extra support are quickly identified by our pastoral team. From Form Tutors through to our Headmaster, we ensure there is always help at hand when our students need it.
Our students know they can also access advice and support from our team of Year 13 Mentors. Our ‘Well-being and Mental Health’ booklet gives more information about the pastoral support systems in place at the School.
Happiness is the key to academic excellence, which is why we prioritise the well-being of our pupils through pastoral care.
Our Personal Development Programme teaches young people how to study effectively, balance their workloads and model a healthy lifestyle. We aim to develop self-esteem, confidence and independence in order to equip our students with the resilience to cope with life’s challenges.
The PD programme also develops the skills and knowledge needed to become active and responsible members of the wider community. It helps them to understand and manage relationships, encouraging respect for others as well as for themselves. Beyond the classroom, we encourage pupils to participate in physical exercise and pursue a wide range of co-curricular interests.
Our inspiring, experienced and insightful teachers promote a culture of aspiration, creating the conditions for students to achieve and encouraging them to succeed.
The strong bond between our teachers and pupils fosters active engagement in the learning process. Our academic success is also based on trust and mutual respect that you see in all of our classrooms.
Learning is limitless with the right encouragement. Our teaching staff have a genuine desire to help pupils realise their potential and go the extra mile to ensure they do.
