Skills for life

Table tennis is a popular sport at BGS at all age levels. There’s an opportunity to play table tennis for recreation or to represent school teams as well as taking part in individual competitions. There are regular opportunities during lunch times and on Wednesday afternoons to play table tennis.

Bradford Grammar School takes part in local Schools Leagues at Primary (under 11), Under 13 and Under 19 levels. BGS hosts the majority of the school fixtures in the Sports Hall using the school’s 11 tables. Bradford Grammar School regularly wins the local leagues and cups. We also compete in the English Schools’ Team Competition where the school enters teams of boys and girls at four age groups (Under 11,13,16 and 19). Bradford Grammar School is the strongest school in West Yorkshire and every year teams reach the regional round of the ESTTA competition. BGS have been Under 13 boys’ national champions and has reached the national finals in a number of different age groups in boys and girls events.

Individually pupils are successful in both the West Yorkshire Schools and Bradford Schools competitions which are held in our Sports Hall in February and March. Winners of the West Yorkshire competition compete in the ESTTA national finals in April. Several pupils are members of Bradford Fastbats Table Tennis Club which provides coaching assistance to the school. Sally Shutt (a former parent) is a leading coach for ETTA and Sally regularly coaches at lunchtimes as well as in Clock House Games lessons. A number of our current pupils are part of the regional development squad and regularly participate at a high level.
