Table tennis is a popular sport at BGS at all age levels. There’s an opportunity to play table tennis for recreation or to represent school teams as well as taking part in individual competitions. There are regular opportunities during lunchtimes and on Wednesday afternoons to play table tennis in the upper sports hall classroom. Table tennis is also taught as part of the junior school games programme on Friday afternoons.
Bradford Grammar School takes part in Bradford Schools partnership Competitions at Under 12, Under 14 and open age groups. We also compete in the English Schools' Team Competition where the school enters teams of boys and girls at four age groups (Under 11, 13, 16 and 19). Bradford Grammar School is the strongest school in West Yorkshire and every year teams reach the regional round of the ESTTA competition. In recent years the school has had three teams in the last sixteen of the competition, which is the most teams from any other school nationally, equalled by one other school. BGS have been Under 13 boys' national champions and has reached the national finals in a number of different age groups in boys and girls events.
Individually pupils are successful in the the West Yorkshire Schools competitions which are held at Keighley Table Tennis Centre. Winners of the West Yorkshire competition compete in the ESTTA national finals in April. Several pupils attend coaching sessions at various clubs in and around West Yorkshire and a number of pupils are members of the regional development training squads and represent West Yorkshire in competitions.
