Aquatic skills

The school has a 25m competition swimming pool on site and since it was built the swimming programme in school has expanded. Our aim is to help all pupils reach the National Curriculum level for swimming. After that, there are opportunities to expand swimming skills to other aquatic activities such as water polo, lifesaving and competitive swimming. The swimming pool is available for length swimming every morning and is lifeguarded by a fully trained pool lifeguard from our Sixth Form. Pupils and staff take advantage of this opportunity to swim leisurely lengths or train for competition.

Water polo is taught and played throughout school and teams are entered in the English Schools competition at Under 14, Under 16 and Senior levels. Lifeguarding and Life Saving prove to be popular extra-curricular activities. Nineteen pupils aged 14 and over have passed the Bronze Medallion Award, many as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Twenty-two pupils, plus two external pupils, have attained the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
