Hockey at BGS is a core sport for girls and is taught in their curriculum PE and Games lessons. As with all sports, there is the opportunity for both girls and boys to take hockey as a Wednesday afternoon activities option.
Hockey gives our girls the opportunity to develop their teamwork and fair play. For many it also allows them to represent the school locally and nationally and for the elite to gain access to the regional and national squads.
In the past year hockey at BGS has gone from strength to strength and all the teams have enjoyed a good season, culminating with the Junior tour to Liverpool where, alongside the matches, the girls enjoyed and really benefited from a two hour coaching session by ex-England player, Matt Taylor.
Locally the school’s Under 12 to Under 15 teams take part in the Bradford Schools’ League and Tournament. The Under 11s and Under 12s played in the HMC mini hockey tournaments for the first time in 2009 with the Under 11s also playing in the hockey festival organised by TGGS.
In the coming season the school will be entering teams for the Under 16 National Schools Cup as well as offering the Under 11s and Under 13s the opportunity to take part in mini hockey championships.
