A Cricketing History

Cricket is one of the two main summer sports played by boys at BGS and the school runs six teams for its best cricketers. Senior boys compete for places in the 1st & 2nd XI whilst year group teams are selected at U12, U13, U14 & U15 level. Cricket in school is run by experienced, committed and knowledgeable members of the teaching staff; boys also benefit from the expertise of ex-Yorkshire opener Simon Kellett in his role as the school’s professional. The selected squads begin their preparation in the Spring term in readiness for matches which are played in the Summer term. The vast majority of games are played on a Saturday and the current fixture list provides strong opposition from across the North of England; Manchester GS, RGS Lancaster, Leeds GS, QEGS Wakefield and St Peter’s York.  The school has a long and proud history of touring. The 1st XI and two Junior teams tour separately during the last week of the academic year. Every four years the Senior Squad have a major tour; destinations have included Barbados, Kenya, USA and Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Sri Lanka and most recently Grenada in 2011.
