Badminton is played across all ability levels at BGS. Our main and over-riding aim is to encourage participation and develop a sense of enjoyment and pride in all we achieve as a club. We have England and county players within our midst, but operate as a team. Members of staff freely give up their time to run sessions, matches, and organise the club.
Badminton training sessions take place on Wednesday afternoons. The squad members are trained by a well-respected badminton coach from 1.00pm until 2.00pm and from 2.00pm until 3.00pm. The session is open to all those in Forms One, Two and Three. For the latter we encourage everyone to have a go and most make remarkable progress at the same time enjoying a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Badminton is a hugely popular sport globally, which is reflected in the demand for it at school. The number of teams entered in to the Bradford Schools’ League and the Yorkshire Schools’ League vary from year to year but if there are sufficient players for a team then we will enter them. In the past we have been very successful in both leagues. Full details of achievements can be found in the Bradfordian. To be selected for a team you need to impress the members of staff and show determination with regular attendance at training sessions. Where appropriate we have a squad system and we aim to involve as many players as possible.
Our home night for fixtures is Wednesday. Most matches start around 3.30pm and finish around 5.00pm. Away matches are dictated by the opposition court availability and again you must organise yourself to ensure that you can commit to the team. A fixtures list is distributed at various stages throughout the year as schedules can change. Our expectation is that you are organised and aware of the expectations.
