The Clarkson Library

Opening Hours: Mon, Wed - Fri 8.30am - 5.00pm
Tuesday 8.50am - 5.00pm

The Clarkson Library is situated on the first floor of the Clarkson Building and was opened in September 1988. The Library acts as an information resource centre, providing books and non-book materials to staff and pupils within the school.

At present there are over 37,000 items in stock of which 1000 items are multimedia. Multimedia includes videos, audio cassettes, CDs, CD-ROMs and DVDs. The Library receives daily newspapers and journals, which are pertinent to the courses studied at BGS.

The book stock is divided into fiction and non-fiction and the Dewey system is used for arranging non-fiction according to subject. The fiction is arranged in alphabetical order by author's surname. There is a mixture of adult fiction and junior fiction. The Junior Library is found on the ground floor of the building and contains material suitable for Junior School pupils.

The Archive Room houses some rare and valuable books and many school records including Red Books, Bradfordians, newspaper articles, photographs etc.

The Library is fully automated using the Heritage system and users may access the catalogue via dedicated PCs. The search facility allows for author, title and keyword searches and is easy to use. Most of the Library stock may be borrowed and all transactions take place at the library counter in the Clarkson foyer. All users are issued with an ID card, which should be produced when borrowing. A photocopying service exists for which there is a small charge.

The library is headed by Mrs Sue South, with assistant librarians Mrs Harrison and Mrs Purcell and libary assistants Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Lord.
