Physics is taught at BGS in all years of the school by subject specialists in seven dedicated laboratories.
We aim to give everyone as thorough a knowledge of the subject as time and their ability allow. In both breadth and depth, teaching often goes beyond the strict requirements of the examination syllabus; we expect pupils to rise to this challenge and to appreciate that there is more to education than public examinations.
Physics is taught as a separate subject throughout years one to five. At GCSE, everyone takes Physics as a separate science following the AQA specification. In the Sixth Form, students take Physics to AS and A level, following AQA specification 'A'. There are typically 40 students per year in the Lower Sixth, taught in four sets.
Able students in the Fifth and Upper Sixth forms are encouraged to enter the national Physics Challenge and British Physics Olympiad competitions. In the Sixth form we also offer A level Electronics (OCR). Normally there are about 10 candidates per year, taught in our own Electronics laboratory.
