The department is responsible for teaching curricular physical education and games for the senior and junior schools and leads the extra-curricular programme for all the major school sports. Each member of the department has responsibility for a sport in their specialist area, as well as responsibility for individual sporting teams. In the Sixth Form students are able to take an AS or A level in physical education. This is a popular course with around a dozen students each year choosing to take the course. In 2008 67% of results at A level were achieved at grades A or B.
