Design & Technology

The Design and Technology Department is located at the heart of the school in its own purpose built accommodation. The state-of-the-art facilities include well-resourced design studios, a self-contained Computer Aided Design Suite together with excellent workshop accommodation, which also houses state-of-the-art CAD/CAM facilities. The department has three full time teachers and one part-time teacher all supported with a full time technician. Design and Technology is a core subject in both the First and Second years with students opting for Design and Technology in the Third year. The GCSE and A level courses are very popular, offering students the opportunity to push further the boundaries of design through an integrated product design approach.

Subject combinations
Design and Technology can be taken in combination with a variety of subjects as it cuts across the subject boundaries between Arts and Sciences. Combinations that include Design and Technology and two from Mathematics, Physics, Art English, Geography, Economics and History provide for a variety of career prospects.

Higher education careers
Pupils taking Design and Technology may become 'designers' but the intellectual rigor of the activities undertaken during the course will find relevance in many careers. Design is relevant for students seeking entry to Faculties of Engineering, Industrial Design Architecture, Management, Ergonomics and other academic studies requiring powers of synthesis and analysis.
