Parents' Association

The Bradford Grammar School Parents’ Association (PA) is a group of parents of students in the senior school including the sixth form. Every parent in the school is a member of the Parents’ Association (PA) and so every parent is welcome to come along and join in with the various ‘get -togethers’ planned throughout the year. The PA is an informal, friendly group of people who enjoy giving their time and talents – as little or as much as they choose – to provide facilities and extracurricular activities, not normally provided by the Governors and to foster good relationships between staff and parents. Those with particular skills offer them, and others support as required – an ideal combination for a school with such a diverse social, economic and cultural mix. The PA is run by a committee, hopefully with a light touch, so that new arrivals who wish to become involved will feel welcome. As BGS parents do not tend to congregate at the school gates as they might do at a ‘local’ school, it is an ideal way of meeting people and being involved in the life of the school. Friendships are forged and we often have the opportunity to share the triumphs and tribulations we experience as parents of young people – it’s good to know that we are not the only ones going through certain phases.

Grants Committee

The Grants Committee is a subcommittee of the PA which awards grants from PA funds for educational, sporting or cultural purposes which are of benefit to the school or its students.

Events

1. The PA’s main event each year is the Spring Fair which takes place in May – you can see the report of the last fair by using this link. (Spring Fair) This event is a very special day for the school being the only event organised by the whole school for the whole school – money raised is used for grants to provide facilities at the School for groups and individuals where there is need and for the PA school prizes. However, the event is much more than a fundraiser – it is ‘a grand day out’ for pupils, present, new and old and their parents, friends and families and other visitors - those who just happened to be passing and those specially invited. It is an opportunity to see the wide ranging talents of staff and pupils in an informal way and most importantly, to have fun!

2. Induction Day - the PA welcomes parents of pupils starting in the next academic year and gives them the opportunity to meet and exchange details with parents of children in their child’s class.

3. Meal – each year we have a meal together in September.

4. Annual General Meeting – this is held each year in the Autumn term – as well as the standard AGM business of election of officers and approval of accounts we try to have an interesting speaker from the school to tell us about an aspect of school life.

5. Carol Concert – the PA provides the refreshments for this annual event

6. Post Christmas ‘get together’ – a party without the need to dress up.
