Project Description

“BGS has really helped me a lot. I’ve been here most of my schooling career, so most of what I’ve learnt has come from the School and the teachers and resources are absolutely fantastic.”

Meet Seun Ogunde

CURRENT PUPIL

We caught up with Seun Ogunde who was recently offered a place at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a University that boasts areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century, to bring knowledge to bear on the world’s great challenges.
MIT graduates drive progress by starting companies that deliver new ideas to the world. A recent study estimates that living alumni have launched more than 30,000 active companies, creating 4.6 million jobs; this “MIT Nation” is equivalent to the 10th-largest economy in the world!

Tell us about your recent achievement with your offering at MIT

“Well I applied to a few Universities abroad and I was accepted into MIT which is really great, as I’m particularly interested in Physics but I got accepted at the University in general so I can choose what I’d like to do. It’s a fabulous opportunity really. I worked really hard and it feels good to secure a place there.

Also, I’m American so I suppose it’s always been on my mind to go back. It’s a new step. I was born in America and then I went to Trinidad and came to the UK when I was little, about 1 year old. I’ve gone back from time to time and a lot of my summer holidays are spent in Trinidad – it’s beautiful!

So going back to America and being in Massachusetts will be really exciting I think.

What do you enjoy most about the subject of Physics?

“I love the scope of Physics and the opportunities it provides. It’s really fun to learn new things. I’m looking to complete a PHD or maybe go into research and just see how I go.

The research areas at MIT look really interesting. You can look at different areas from the environment, climate change, cybersecurity, robotics, and artificial intelligence to human health such as cancer, HIV, and Alzheimer’s.

It’s all really innovative stuff.

How has the school encouraged you to reach your goal(s)?

“BGS has really helped me a lot. I’ve been here most of schooling career, so most of what I’ve learnt has come from the School and the teachers and resources are absolutely fantastic.

The recommendations and advice given by my teachers have really helped me to find my way, which in combination with working hard has provided me with this rare opportunity.

The environment is really good – every teacher cares and that’s a big thing for me.

What do you think about range of subjects on offer at Sixth Form?

“The range of subjects at BGS is great it’s so comprehensive so you have a range of opportunities you can follow.

Sports is also really good and has a nice nature of participation. My friends also mean a lot to me and we all encourage one another, that’s also important to me.
